Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a data project where you found something useful. How did you turn it into something a non-technical person could act on?

What they are checking: Whether they can close the gap between analysis and a business decision, which is the core of forward deployed work.

Tell me about a time you documented your work so someone else could pick it up.

What they are checking: Whether they write down logic and assumptions so their summer project outlives the internship.

Have you worked in sprints with standups and demos? What did you like or not like?

What they are checking: Whether they can fit into the pod's agile cadence and contribute in it.

What would you do

You sit with a planner who says the dashboard is wrong. How do you figure out who is right?

What they are checking: Whether they respect domain knowledge and dig into the data with the user instead of defending their work.

You get data from Azure, Excel files and a data lake, and the product codes do not match. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can handle messy, mismatched source data patiently and carefully.

You are presenting your summer project to business stakeholders. How do you prepare?

What they are checking: Whether they can tailor a technical result to people who care about decisions, not methods.

Your mentor gives you a pattern to follow, but you think there is a better way. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they follow team standards while still raising ideas in the right way.

About the work

Write out how you would query a SQL Server table of shipments to find the customers with the most late deliveries last quarter.

What they are checking: Whether they have working SQL skill for joining, filtering and aggregating real operations data.

How would you approach building a simple demand forecast? What would you check before trusting it?

What they are checking: Whether they understand forecasting basics and the need to validate a model against actuals.

What does an ontology or data model mean to you, and why might it help a supply chain team?

What they are checking: Whether they can think about connecting data sources into objects that match how the business works.

What is the difference between a predictive model and a prescriptive one? Give an example from inventory.

What they are checking: Whether they understand the difference between forecasting what will happen and recommending what to do.

What You Will Do • Analyze supply chain and operations data to uncover patterns, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement, and turn what you find into something a business user can act on. • Learn our supply chain business functions and build the domain knowledge that makes analytics work matter — sitting with planners and operators to understand the decision behind the data. • Pair with your manager / mentor, following established patterns and standards so your work is reliable and reusable. • Document your methodology, business logic, and assumptions so your work is transparent and can be picked up after the summer ends. • Participate in the pod's sprint cadence — planning, standups, demos, and retrospectives • Own one scoped summer project end to end and present it to the team and business stakeholders in your final weeks. How You Will Do It • Build components of dashboards, Ontology-based workflows, and decision-support tools within our decision intelligence platform, under the guidance of experienced FDEs (Forward Deployed Engineers). • Support the development of predictive models (demand forecasting, inventory optimization) and prescriptive analytics (scenario planning, decision support) on real datasets. • Help gather and document data requirements from diverse sources (Azure, data lakes, SQL Server, Excel), supporting Senior FDEs as they implement changes. • Use AI-powered development tools to build and iterate quickly while developing strong engineering fundamentals. What We Look For Required • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. college or university • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, IT, Computer Science, and/or related field. • Ability to be in the greater Milwaukee area in the summer. Foundational skills in data manipulation and analysis (SQL, Python, or Excel) and curiosity about decision intelligence platforms such as Palantir and Generative AI tools. • Duration: Summer 2027. Up to 40 hours per week. • Working Arrangements: Hybrid internship – must have a quiet workspace away from interruptions, with the option to work in the office. Be able to maintain regular contact with the supervisor/team via virtual methods. • PLEASE NOTE that applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US without the need for sponsorship, now or in the future. Preferred • Coursework or projects using Python or R for data analysis and automation. • Familiarity with decision intelligence tools (Palantir, Databricks, etc.) or BI tools (PowerBI, Tableau, Microsoft Fabric). • Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) or databased (SQL Server, Snowflake). • Coursework in statistics, machine learning, optimization, or operations research. • Familiarity with agile ways or working (user stories, sprints). What you get: • Global market strength and worldwide market share leadership • HQ location earns LEED certification for sustainability plus a full-service cafeteria and workout facility • Clarios has been recognized as one of 2026's Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere.
