Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a server migration or cutover you executed from start to finish. What was moving, and how did you know it was safe to go live?

whether the candidate has genuinely run end-to-end migration work versus just supporting one

Tell me about a time a cutover didn't go as planned. What broke, and what did you do in the moment?

composure and problem-solving under live implementation pressure

Tell me about a project where you had to coordinate across several teams, like storage, security, and application owners, to hit a milestone. What made that hard?

cross-functional coordination skill in a role with no direct reports

Tell me about a time you had to escalate a risk or blocker that leadership didn't want to hear about. How did you handle that conversation?

willingness to surface bad news early rather than let it fester

Technical

How would you validate that a Windows Server or Linux build is actually ready for production before you hand it off to operations?

depth of hands-on knowledge of readiness criteria beyond checklist-following

Describe how you've used ServiceNow CMDB in past project work. What kind of asset or configuration data did you keep current, and why did it matter?

real familiarity with CMDB discipline versus surface-level tool exposure

How do you use privileged access tools like CyberArk during an implementation, and what's your process for making sure that access is properly scoped and closed out afterward?

security discipline and comfort with privileged access governance

Walk me through how you'd prepare a change request and backout plan for a CAB review on a directory services change.

working knowledge of ITIL change management and risk mitigation planning

What does a solid backup and restore validation look like to you, and can you describe a time you actually tested a restore as part of a project?

whether disaster recovery talk is theoretical or based on real practice

Situational

Say you're two days from a major migration wave and you discover a dependency that wasn't captured in the CMDB. What do you do?

how they handle gaps in documentation and whether they escalate versus quietly patching over risk

If, during hypercare after a go-live, you start seeing intermittent issues that don't clearly point to one system, how do you approach tracking that down?

troubleshooting method across a hybrid, multi-platform environment

How do you approach writing a runbook or transition document so that an operations team who wasn't part of the project can actually use it?

documentation habits and empathy for the team inheriting the work

You're managing multiple project tasks with overlapping deadlines and one vendor is slow to respond. How do you keep things moving without dropping something else?

prioritization and vendor management skills in a project execution role
