Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a cloud platform your team built or ran. What did you change after it was in production?

What they are checking: Whether they have owned a real platform through its operational life, not just its initial build.

Tell me about an engineer you helped grow into a stronger role.

What they are checking: Whether they invest in people, which is the core of an engineering manager's job.

Tell me about a time you had a performance problem on your team. How did you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they address problems directly and fairly instead of avoiding hard conversations.

What would you do

A production outage means some users can't see their glucose readings in the app. Walk me through the first hour.

What they are checking: Whether they put patient safety and clear communication first during an incident.

A product team wants a feature from your platform next sprint, but it would add technical debt you'd regret. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can negotiate scope and timing while protecting long-term platform health.

About the work

Our glucose data flows from sensors to phones to the cloud. What would worry you most about running that platform at scale?

What they are checking: Whether they think about reliability, latency and data integrity for health data that people act on in real time.

How do you keep engineering speed up while working under medical device software rules?

What they are checking: Whether they know how to fit design controls and documentation into a modern delivery process.

How do you decide when to build a shared platform service versus letting product teams build their own?

What they are checking: Whether they understand what a platform practice is for and avoid building things nobody uses.

How do you approach security and privacy for health data in a public cloud?

What they are checking: Whether they treat encryption, access control and compliance as design basics, not afterthoughts.

How do you measure whether your platform team is doing well?

What they are checking: Whether they use measures like reliability, deployment speed and internal adoption rather than just tickets closed.
