Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a manufacturing or product problem you solved as an engineer. How did you find the real cause?

What they are checking: Whether they use structured problem solving and data instead of jumping to the first fix that seems likely.

Tell me about a time you worked with operators or maintenance to make a change stick.

What they are checking: Whether they respect the people running the process, which decides whether an engineering change survives the next shift.

How do you manage several projects at once when the plant keeps adding urgent requests?

What they are checking: Whether they can prioritize and communicate tradeoffs instead of letting everything slip a little.

What would you do

Production says a new part is causing scrap on the line. What are your first steps?

What they are checking: Whether they go to the floor, gather data and contain the problem before changing designs or processes.

How would you approach a cost reduction project on an existing product without hurting quality?

What they are checking: Whether they think about validation and customer impact, not just the savings number.

What would you want to learn in your first month at the Freeport site?

What they are checking: Whether they plan to understand the products and processes before trying to change them.

About the work

What problem solving tools do you reach for, like 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams or 8D?

What they are checking: Whether they have a repeatable method for root cause analysis that they can explain to others on the floor.

How do you read a drawing with GD and T callouts, and what would you do if a part met the print but still did not fit?

What they are checking: Whether they understand tolerances deeply enough to tell a drawing problem from a process problem.

Which CAD tools have you used, and what kind of parts or fixtures have you designed?

What they are checking: Whether they can produce usable models and drawings for a plant that makes metal plumbing and drinking water products.

How do you document an engineering change so purchasing, quality and production all know what changed?

What they are checking: Whether they follow change control, which keeps the wrong revision from being built on the floor.
