Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through your teaching experience so far. What kinds of learners have you taught, and what levels of EMS provider have you worked with?

whether the candidate's teaching background actually matches the range of EMT levels this program serves

Tell me about a time you had to build a training curriculum from scratch to meet a state or national standard. How did you make sure it actually complied?

experience translating regulatory requirements into usable course content

How would you approach building a relationship with a local technical college or a regional EMS provider you've never worked with before?

ability to act as a liaison and build partnerships across organizations with different priorities

Tell me about a disagreement you had with a physician or medical director over a protocol or a teaching point. How did you resolve it?

ability to hold a position respectfully with physicians while maintaining the working relationship required by this role

Describe a time you had to manage a full course schedule, evening sessions, and field responsibilities all in the same stretch of time. How did you prioritize?

realistic ability to handle the flexed hours and split responsibilities this job requires

Tell me about a time you had to report bad news or a program shortfall up to leadership. How did you frame it?

comfort with transparency and upward communication when program goals aren't being met

Technical

What's your understanding of the Wisconsin EMS system structure, including how technical colleges, medical directors, and state statutes fit together?

actual working knowledge of the regulatory and educational landscape this job operates in, not just general EMS knowledge

What's your process for reviewing a QA or QI finding and turning it into something you actually teach in the classroom?

whether the candidate can close the loop between quality data and educational content, not just deliver lectures

What does your experience look like with PowerPoint, Excel, and building out training materials or tracking data for a program like this?

basic administrative and reporting competence needed to run the program day to day

Situational

Say a paramedic student in your class is struggling with a skill and getting defensive when corrected. How do you handle that in the moment and afterward?

instructional patience and conflict de-escalation with adult learners

You're in the field observing a crew and you see a provider deviate from protocol during a call. What do you do right then, and what do you do after?

judgment on when to intervene in real time versus address something through debrief and QA

If you found out two providers in the field were giving noticeably different quality of care during patient calls, how would you address that without damaging trust in the program?

conflict resolution and diplomacy when addressing performance gaps among peers

Where are you in the process of getting your EMS Instructor I certification, and how do you plan to meet that 18-month requirement while doing this job?

realistic planning around a hard licensing deadline tied to the role
