About your past

Tell me about a job or task where you had to do the same physical work for hours. How did you keep your pace and accuracy?

What they are checking: Whether they can handle repetitive lifting, hanging and stocking without getting sloppy as the shift goes on.

Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team to finish something by a deadline.

What they are checking: Whether they pitch in to help others finish, since the floor has to be ready by open, not just their section.

What would you do

This shift starts early in the morning. How will you get here on time every day, including in winter?

What they are checking: Whether they have a real plan for transportation and sleep, because early shifts fall apart on attendance.

You are putting out new merchandise and find an item with no price tag. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they follow merchandise standards and ask for help instead of guessing at a price or shelving it untagged.

How do you decide what to do first when a pile of boxes and a rolling rack are both waiting for you?

What they are checking: Whether they think about priorities and ask the coordinator instead of picking whatever looks easiest.

The posting says you may ring purchases too. How would you feel about being pulled from stocking to a register once the store opens?

What they are checking: Whether they are flexible about cross-training, which the store relies on to cover changing needs.

You see a coworker slipping something into their bag in the stockroom. What would you do?

What they are checking: Whether they understand loss prevention standards and would report honestly rather than look the other way.

A customer comes in early and asks you where to find something while you are in the middle of stocking. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they treat customers as the priority even when the job is mostly behind the scenes.

About the work

Why does it matter that clothes go on the right rack and in the right size order before the store opens?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that a well-organized floor is what lets customers find things and buy them.

How do you lift and move heavy boxes safely?

What they are checking: Whether they know basic safe lifting and will avoid injuries that take them off the schedule.
