Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to turn around performance at a location or practice that was missing its operating budget or key metrics. What did you find and what did you do?

whether the candidate can diagnose root causes and drive corrective action rather than just report on problems

Describe a time you had to lead through frontline managers to get results, rather than doing the work yourself. What made that hard and what did you do differently?

comfort with leading through layers versus being hands-on operator

How do you build a relationship with physician or clinician leadership when you don't have authority over their clinical practice but you do own the operations they depend on?

ability to influence without formal authority and respect the clinical-administrative boundary

Tell me about a workforce planning or staffing model decision you made that didn't go the way you expected. What did you learn?

self-awareness and willingness to own miscalculations in staffing design

Tell me about a time you had to deliver a difficult message to a frontline leader about their team's performance or engagement scores. How did you handle it?

directness and skill in accountability conversations

What's your approach to succession planning and developing bench strength among the managers who report to you?

long-term talent development orientation versus short-term firefighting

Technical

Walk me through how you would set up management routines across multiple neuroscience practice locations to keep access, throughput, and quality metrics on track.

understanding of operational cadence and KPI management across a multi-site service line

What data do you look at first when you're trying to figure out whether an access or capacity problem is a staffing issue, a scheduling issue, or a demand issue?

analytical rigor in separating causes of throughput problems using real operational data

How have you structured a root cause analysis and corrective action process after a quality or safety gap was identified, and how did you follow through to confirm it actually stuck?

depth of quality improvement process knowledge versus surface familiarity

Situational

Say a clinic is consistently over labor budget but patient volume has actually grown. How would you approach that with the frontline manager?

ability to balance financial discipline with growth realities and coach rather than just enforce

A neurologist tells you scheduling and coverage gaps are hurting their ability to see patients and it's affecting referrals. What steps do you take in the first two weeks?

prioritization and problem-solving skills applied to a realistic clinician complaint

You've got two practice managers with very different strengths and one underperforming. How do you decide whether to coach, reassign, or replace?

judgment in performance management and talent decisions

How would you go about integrating operations across different care settings, say inpatient and ambulatory neurosciences, when each has been run independently up to now?

strategic thinking about consolidation and change management across silos

You're managing multiple locations with frequent travel and after-hours clinician meetings. How do you decide where your time goes in a given week?

time management and prioritization skill given the role's dispersed, high-demand nature
