Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
You would lead facilities, interiors, landscaping, fitness centers and cafés. Which of those have you run directly, and where would you lean on your managers?
What they are checking: An honest picture of their range across very different service lines and how they would lead the parts they know least.
Uline is opening a new headquarters building. Tell me about a time you brought a new building into operation. What went wrong, and what would you do differently?
What they are checking: Real experience with a building opening, where punch lists, vendor startups and early complaints all land at once.
With a team of more than 150 people, how do you keep a positive culture in groups as different as landscaping crews and café staff?
What they are checking: Whether they can lead varied frontline teams fairly and keep them feeling part of one department.
Describe a time you had to explain a large facilities expense to senior leaders who did not see why it mattered.
What they are checking: Whether they can make the business case for facilities spending in plain terms that executives will accept.
What would you do
Your custodial vendor keeps missing the cleanliness standard even after two warnings. How do you handle it?
What they are checking: How they manage third-party contracts with clear expectations, documentation and a real plan if a vendor must be replaced.
Employees in the new building start complaining about temperature, noise and long café lines all in the same week. Where do you start?
What they are checking: How they triage workplace experience issues and communicate with employees while fixes are underway.
What does a first-class workplace look like to you, and how would you measure whether you are delivering it?
What they are checking: Whether their sense of quality is concrete and measurable rather than a general feeling about nice buildings.
About the work
How do you run a facilities audit across several HQ buildings, and what happens after you find something below standard?
What they are checking: Whether audits lead to owned fixes with follow-up, not just a checklist that sits in a folder.
Tell me about a facilities budget you built. How did you decide what went into operating costs versus a long-term project?
What they are checking: Financial judgment, including whether they can plan capital work over years instead of reacting to breakdowns.
How do you decide when to use your own staff and when to hire a contractor for a facility project?
What they are checking: Their judgment on cost, quality, speed and risk when choosing between in-house labor and outside contractors.
Food service has its own safety rules. How have you kept a café or kitchen operation in good standing with health inspections?
What they are checking: Whether they understand food safety and inspection risk well enough to oversee on-site cafés responsibly.
