Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you challenged a general manager's assumptions on a big decision. How did it go?

What they are checking: Whether they can give an independent view to a senior leader without becoming an obstacle or a yes-person.

Describe a time you had to deliver a forecast miss to senior leadership. How did you explain it?

What they are checking: Whether they own bad news, explain drivers clearly, and come with a plan rather than excuses.

How do you build a strong finance team when you're also expected to operate with a lot of autonomy?

What they are checking: Whether they develop people and delegate well, not just do the work themselves.

Tell me about a time your financial insight shaped business strategy, not just reporting.

What they are checking: Whether they have truly influenced strategy, which separates a business partner from a reporting lead.

What would you do

Formulated Solutions is about $950M across five Strategic Business Units. How would you get your arms around the business in your first 90 days?

What they are checking: Whether they have a clear, practical plan to learn the business and earn the general manager's trust quickly.

Operations wants to invest in new equipment, and the GM is focused on hitting this year's margin. How do you help them decide?

What they are checking: Whether they can frame the tradeoff objectively so leaders can make a well-informed decision.

About the work

How would you evaluate a capacity expansion request for a business unit with uncertain semiconductor demand?

What they are checking: Whether they can model scenarios and risk around a cyclical market rather than relying on one forecast.

Walk me through how you'd build a planning and forecasting process across five SBUs that leaders actually trust.

What they are checking: Whether they know how to create consistency, accountability, and credibility in forecasting at the divisional level.

How do you decide how to allocate resources between a mature high-margin product line and a growing but unproven one?

What they are checking: Whether they balance near-term profit with long-term value creation using sound investment logic.

What performance metrics would you put in front of the leadership team monthly, and why those?

What they are checking: Whether they pick a small set of measures that drive action rather than overwhelming leaders with data.
