Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Walk me through an Oracle EPM financial close implementation you worked on, from design through go-live. What was your piece of it?

What they are checking: Whether they owned real workstream delivery on a close project or only watched from the edges of the team.

Tell me about a time you managed a work plan where the client's team kept missing their deliverables. What did you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can hold clients accountable to the plan without damaging the relationship that keeps the project alive.

Describe how you've mentored a junior consultant on a project while still hitting your own deadlines.

What they are checking: Whether they treat coaching junior staff as part of the job, since the posting expects associates to manage and mentor.

Why consulting and why Huron, rather than an in-house finance systems role?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the travel, pace and client-facing demands of consulting and have chosen them on purpose.

What would you do

A client controller says the close takes twelve days and wants it at five. How would you figure out where the time is going?

What they are checking: Whether they diagnose the process before reaching for technology, which is what makes a close faster in practice.

Two weeks before go-live, testing shows consolidated numbers don't tie to the legacy system. How do you run that down?

What they are checking: Whether they stay calm and methodical under deadline pressure and know how to isolate data, mapping and rule issues.

A client stakeholder wants a custom report that falls outside the agreed scope. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they can protect scope and budget while still leaving the client feeling heard and well served.

About the work

How would you set up account reconciliation in Oracle ARCS for a client that still reconciles everything in spreadsheets?

What they are checking: Whether they understand reconciliation formats, frequencies and risk ratings well enough to design a working process, not just configure screens.

In Financial Consolidation and Close, how do you handle intercompany eliminations and mismatches during the close?

What they are checking: Whether they know the accounting behind the tool, since close projects fail when consultants only know the software.

How do you explain a design decision in a close tool to a CFO who doesn't care about the configuration?

What they are checking: Whether they can translate system choices into finance outcomes, which is what client presentations at this level demand.

What's your approach to data integration between an ERP general ledger and EPM? Where do those loads usually break?

What they are checking: Whether they have hands-on experience with data management and know the common failure points from real projects.
