Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a production incident you helped resolve. What did you change afterward?

What they are checking: Calm under pressure and a habit of learning from incidents to prevent repeats.

Tell me about a time you made a process easier for other engineers through automation.

What they are checking: Whether they see their job as enabling other teams, which the posting stresses.

What would you do

A developer says the pipeline is too slow and they are skipping it. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they treat developer experience seriously and fix the root cause instead of enforcing rules.

Someone made a manual change in the GCP console that drifted from Terraform. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Understanding of drift and how to fix it without breaking things or blaming people.

About the work

Walk me through a GitLab CI/CD pipeline you built. What stages did it have and why?

What they are checking: Hands-on GitLab CI experience and thoughtful pipeline design rather than copied templates.

How do you structure Terraform modules so multiple teams can reuse them safely on Google Cloud?

What they are checking: Infrastructure as Code design skills, including state management, variables and versioning.

A deployment to GKE fails and pods are stuck in CrashLoopBackOff. How do you troubleshoot it?

What they are checking: Practical Kubernetes debugging skills like reading logs, events and resource limits.

How do you use Helm charts to manage configuration across development, staging and production?

What they are checking: Whether they keep environments consistent while handling differences cleanly.

How do you handle secrets in pipelines and Kubernetes?

What they are checking: Security awareness, since leaked credentials in CI are a common and serious risk.

How would you set up monitoring for a new service so the team knows about problems before users do?

What they are checking: Thinking about observability, alerts and meaningful health signals.
