Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This is an internship in the finance organization supporting financial data governance, data visualization or process automation. Which of those three interests you most, and why?

What they are checking: Whether they read the posting and have a preference to explain

Part of the job is documenting procedures and process guides so things stay consistent. Tell me about something you've documented for someone else to follow.

What they are checking: Whether they are willing to document procedures carefully, since clear process guides keep data work consistent and are a stated part of this role.

Financial master data has to be accurate or downstream reports are wrong. How would you check your own work?

What they are checking: Whether they have habits for checking their own work, because errors in financial master data quietly flow into every downstream report.

What do you want to be able to do by the end of this internship that you can't do today?

What they are checking: A real goal for the term rather than a generic answer about experience

What would you do

You automate something and it works. How do you make sure it keeps working after you leave for the semester?

What they are checking: Whether they think about documentation and handover for anything they automate, so their work keeps running after the internship ends.

You don't understand what a stakeholder is asking for. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they ask clarifying questions instead of guessing what a stakeholder wants, which saves time and prevents building the wrong thing.

The role is full-time in the summer up to forty hours a week and part-time during the school year up to twenty, commuting to the Eau Claire location. Does that arrangement work with your course schedule?

What they are checking: Whether the summer and school-year hours and the Eau Claire commute genuinely fit their course schedule, so the arrangement is sustainable all year.

About the work

What data analytics tools have you actually used for coursework or a project?

What they are checking: Whether they have actually used data analytics tools hands-on, since real project experience shows more than a list of courses they've taken.

The posting names SQL, Python, Microsoft Office including Excel, and the Power Platform. Where are you with each of those?

What they are checking: Whether they are honest about their skill with SQL, Python, Excel and the Power Platform, so the team knows where they'll need support.

You're handed a messy data set and asked to make it usable. Walk me through your first hour.

What they are checking: A practical approach to data cleaning rather than a textbook answer
