Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Walk me through a recent analysis where you pulled data from several sources and found a pattern nobody expected.

What they are checking: Whether they can combine messy sources into a real insight rather than just running reports on one clean table.

Tell me about a time your analysis led to a business decision. What changed?

What they are checking: Whether their work produces recommendations people act on, not just charts that sit in a slide deck.

Tell me about a time you worked with other data teams to scale an analysis into something used regularly.

What they are checking: Whether they can move from one-time analysis to durable solutions by collaborating with engineers and other analysts.

What would you do

How would you explain a predictive model's results to a business leader who does not trust black boxes?

What they are checking: Whether they can translate technical output into plain language and show which factors actually drive predictions.

You find that a number in a widely used report has been calculated wrong for months. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they raise the issue quickly and carefully, sizing the impact instead of quietly fixing it.

About the work

How would you check whether a dataset is good enough to support an AI or machine learning solution?

What they are checking: Whether they assess completeness, bias, labeling and leakage before anyone invests in building a model.

Write out in words the SQL you would use to find customers whose monthly card spending dropped by more than half.

What they are checking: Whether they can handle window functions, date grouping and comparisons, which are daily work for a bank analyst.

How would you analyze consumer trends in deposit balances to help the bank understand customer behavior?

What they are checking: Whether they can segment customers sensibly and separate seasonal patterns from real behavior shifts.

What tools and languages do you use for large-scale analysis, and why those?

What they are checking: Whether they have hands-on depth in Python, SQL or big data tools rather than a list of keywords.

How do you handle customer data responsibly when analyzing it?

What they are checking: Whether they understand privacy and access rules in a bank and treat sensitive data with care.
