Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
This is a weekend role, three 12-hour shifts Friday through Sunday. What does a long Saturday in a small-hospital CT department look like to you, and how do you stay sharp in hour eleven?
What they are checking: Whether they understand weekend CT coverage is often thin and can keep their accuracy late in a long shift.
Tell me about a time you caught an error in an order, like the wrong body part or wrong protocol, before scanning.
What they are checking: Whether they read orders critically and speak up, since a wrong scan means extra radiation and delayed care.
Cross training is available here. Which other modalities interest you, and why?
What they are checking: Whether they want to grow inside a small department where flexible techs make the schedule work.
What would you do
You don't have your CT credential yet. Walk me through your plan to earn it within 12 months of starting.
What they are checking: Whether they have a realistic, self-driven path to the credential the job depends on, rather than hoping it works out.
A patient starts getting hives and says their throat feels tight a minute after contrast. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they recognize an escalating contrast reaction quickly and know to stop, call for help and stay with the patient.
A trauma comes in from the ED while you have an outpatient on the table and an inpatient waiting. How do you sort that out?
What they are checking: How they set priorities on a weekend with no backup tech and still keep the other patients informed and safe.
What do you do when the scanner throws an error mid-scan and there's no physicist or service rep on site that day?
What they are checking: Whether they can troubleshoot calmly, know when to stop using equipment and know who to escalate to on a weekend.
A family member insists on staying in the room during the scan. How do you handle that?
What they are checking: Whether they can hold a radiation safety line kindly without creating conflict with a worried family.
About the work
Before you inject IV contrast, what do you check and what would make you stop and call the radiologist?
What they are checking: Whether they screen for kidney function, prior reactions and allergies every time instead of assuming someone else did.
How do you keep radiation dose as low as you can while still getting images the radiologist can read?
What they are checking: Whether they actually apply dose-reduction practice, especially for children and repeat scans, instead of just reciting the phrase.
How do you set up a patient who is confused, in pain or can't hold still, so you still get a usable scan?
What they are checking: Practical positioning and communication skill that keeps repeat scans and motion artifact down.
