Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you noticed a problem with a vehicle you were driving for work.

What they are checking: Whether they report mechanical issues right away instead of ignoring them to finish the shift.

What's your driving record like, and how do you stay focused on long afternoon and evening routes?

What they are checking: Whether they are a safe, attentive driver who avoids distractions like phone use behind the wheel.

The schedule is 1 to 9:30 with rotating weekends and holidays. Does that work for you?

What they are checking: Whether they can reliably cover the posted hours, since missed routes affect patient care across sites.

What would you do

You get to a physician office and the specimen bag has no signature sheet and one label looks smudged. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they stop and fix chain-of-custody problems instead of grabbing the bag and leaving.

Traffic on a snowy evening puts you an hour behind on your route. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they stay safe, keep dispatch informed and help reprioritize stops rather than speeding to catch up.

A lab staff member is frustrated that a pickup was missed yesterday. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they stay polite, take ownership and follow up with dispatch so it doesn't happen again.

About the work

You'd carry specimens between hospitals, satellite sites and doctors' offices out of Arlington Heights. Why does it matter so much that a lab specimen gets there on time?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that a late or lost specimen can delay a diagnosis or force a patient to be stuck again.

Walk me through your pre-trip inspection on a vehicle before you head out.

What they are checking: Whether they actually check tires, lights, fluids and brakes, which the posting makes part of the job.

How do you use a handheld scanner to track pickups and drop-offs, and what happens if it won't scan?

What they are checking: Whether they keep tracking accurate and know how to document by hand and tell dispatch when the device fails.

How do you handle specimens that need to stay cold or be kept upright?

What they are checking: Whether they follow handling rules for different specimens, since a ruined sample may be impossible to replace.
