Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about the hardest PLC or servo problem you have solved. How did you find the root cause?

What they are checking: Depth of troubleshooting skill and whether they stop at the true cause rather than the first fix that works.

Tell me about a time a customer was frustrated or angry about equipment downtime. What did you do?

What they are checking: Composure and professionalism when they are the face of the company in someone else's plant.

Field service means a lot of travel and long days. How do you manage that, and what have you learned about doing it well over time?

What they are checking: Realistic understanding of the travel load and whether they can sustain it without burning out.

What would you do

You are at a customer plant and an envelope machine's window-patching section keeps stopping on a servo fault. Walk me through your first hour.

What they are checking: A calm, structured approach to diagnosis under customer pressure when every minute of downtime costs them money.

How would you train a customer's maintenance staff on the electrical side of a die-cutting, gumming and folding machine they have never run?

What they are checking: Whether they can teach in plain language so the customer stops needing a service call for every small issue.

During a startup you find the problem is mechanical, not electrical, and the mechanical tech is not on site. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they work as part of a team, know their limits, and still keep the customer moving forward.

After you fix a recurring fault on a customer's machine, what do you report back to engineering in Green Bay?

What they are checking: Whether they close the loop so design problems get fixed at the source instead of repeated in the field.

About the work

How do you read an electrical schematic to trace a fault from an HMI alarm back to a specific device?

What they are checking: Whether they can actually move between drawings and hardware, which is the core skill of field controls work.

This role includes supporting customers remotely. How do you troubleshoot a machine when you cannot see or touch it?

What they are checking: Whether they can guide a customer's staff clearly and use remote tools without making the problem worse.

What lockout/tagout and electrical safety practices do you follow when working on live control cabinets at a customer site?

What they are checking: Whether safety is a habit they keep in unfamiliar plants, not something they relax when rushed.
