Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you trained someone on CMM programming or GD&T.

What they are checking: Whether they can grow their team's skills, which a supervisor must do.

Tell me about a time you found a measurement nonconformance and drove the corrective action.

What they are checking: Whether they lead root cause work instead of only reporting problems.

How do you keep a team of programmers and inspectors motivated during heavy workload periods?

What they are checking: Whether they lead people well, not just manage machines.

What would you do

Production needs parts inspected to ship today, but you have three CMMs and five jobs waiting. How do you decide?

What they are checking: Whether they can balance workload and shipping priorities without cutting inspection corners.

A CMM result says a part is bad but the machinist swears it's good. How do you figure out who's right?

What they are checking: Whether they troubleshoot fixturing, programs and probes objectively instead of taking sides.

About the work

Walk me through how you build a CMM program in PC-DMIS or Calypso for a complex machined part.

What they are checking: Whether they have deep, hands-on programming skill in the software the team uses.

How do you set up a datum structure from a drawing that uses GD&T per ASME Y14.5?

What they are checking: Whether they interpret GD&T correctly, which drives accurate inspection.

Walk me through how you complete an AS9102 First Article Inspection Report.

What they are checking: Whether they know aerospace first article requirements and characteristic accountability.

How do you run a Gauge R&R study, and what would you do if results were poor?

What they are checking: Whether they understand measurement system analysis and how to fix a weak inspection method.

How do you manage calibration for CMMs and optical comparators?

What they are checking: Whether they keep metrology equipment reliable and documented.
