Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you spotted a problem in a process and reported it up. What happened next?

What they are checking: Whether they will flag issues to their manager early, which the role explicitly depends on.

How does working in a lab inquiry role differ from seeing patients in clinic, and why do you want this side of the work?

What they are checking: Whether they understand they will mostly support providers and lab staff and are genuinely motivated by that.

Tell me about presenting or networking at a scientific meeting or conference. What did you get out of it?

What they are checking: Whether they are comfortable representing the company in front of peers, which is part of the business development side of the job.

What would you do

A physician calls confused about a variant of uncertain significance on a precision oncology report. How do you walk them through it?

What they are checking: Whether they can explain uncertain results accurately to a busy clinician without overstating or understating what the result means.

A lab tech asks you to approve a test order modification that doesn't quite match the clinical history. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they follow department protocol and escalate gaps instead of making quiet judgment calls that affect patient results.

Walk me through how you'd work with a molecular geneticist when you disagree about how a result should be described to a client.

What they are checking: Whether they can push back respectfully with evidence while accepting the geneticist's final authority on interpretation.

You have three inquiries waiting, one about a delayed result, one about interpretation and one about billing confusion. How do you sort them?

What they are checking: Whether they prioritize by patient impact and urgency, and route non-clinical issues to the right team.

About the work

How do you explain the difference between a somatic finding on a tumor test and a possible germline finding?

What they are checking: Whether their oncology genetics knowledge is solid enough to answer the questions clinicians and labs actually call about.

The role includes helping write marketing materials and website content. How do you keep that content accurate and not promotional about what a test can do?

What they are checking: Whether they protect scientific accuracy when working alongside marketing, where overclaiming is a real risk.

How do you stay current on precision oncology guidelines and new biomarkers?

What they are checking: Whether they have a real habit of keeping up, since outdated knowledge leads to wrong answers to clinicians.
