Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to be the main point of contact for a family who was anxious or upset about their child's condition.

how they handle emotional families while still moving logistics forward

Describe a situation where you used a critical pathway or best practice guideline to guide a patient's care, and it wasn't straightforward.

whether they understand pathways as tools for judgment rather than rigid checklists

Tell me about a time you were part of a quality improvement effort. What was your specific role in the data collection or analysis?

real involvement versus passive attendance at QI meetings

Tell me about a time you disagreed with a physician or specialist about a patient's plan of care. How did you handle it?

assertiveness and communication skills the posting explicitly calls out, and whether they escalate appropriately

Technical

How do you prioritize your day when you're juggling scheduling procedures, triaging phone calls, and documenting in the chart all at once?

real workload management skills specific to a coordinator role, not just general time management talk

What pediatric GI conditions or procedures have you worked with, and how comfortable are you learning a new specialty area quickly?

actual clinical background match versus willingness to ramp up given the 1-2 years specialty preference

How do you keep a family's care plan organized when the patient has multiple upcoming appointments, tests, and referrals across different departments?

organizational systems and follow-through, since missed coordination directly harms patient care

What does growth and development-informed care look like when you're working with kids ranging from infants to teenagers in the same clinic?

whether they understand age-specific communication and assessment, which the posting flags directly

Situational

Walk me through how you would manage the care plan for a pediatric GI patient who needs coordination between the specialist, the pediatrician, and maybe a dietitian or surgeon.

whether the candidate can actually run multi-provider case coordination, not just describe teamwork in the abstract

A parent calls asking for a medication refill but you notice the chart shows the last lab work is overdue. What do you do?

judgment about scope of practice and whether they'll push back on a request rather than just processing it

How do you explain a medication regimen or procedure prep to a parent when the child is scared or the family doesn't have much medical background?

patient and family education skills tailored to pediatric literacy levels

This role covers both the Oak Lawn clinic and travel to Tinley Park, with hours that shift and occasional weekend or holiday coverage. How do you handle that kind of variability in your schedule?

realistic buy-in to the schedule demands rather than a rehearsed yes

You get a call from a school nurse about a patient having symptoms that could be urgent or could wait for the next scheduled visit. How do you decide what to do?

triage judgment and knowing when to escalate versus manage within scope
