Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you were the first person someone saw when they walked in upset. What did you do in the first minute?

What they are checking: Patients on dialysis come three times a week, often tired or worried, and the front desk sets the tone.

Tell me about a time you had to learn a new scheduling or records system quickly. How did you get up to speed?

What they are checking: No dialysis experience is required, so they want proof the person picks up new systems and terms fast.

Describe a time you noticed a mistake in a record or form that someone else had filled out. How did you handle it?

What they are checking: Attention to detail and whether they correct errors through the right person instead of quietly fixing or ignoring them.

What draws you to working in a clinic for people living with kidney disease rather than a general office job?

What they are checking: Whether they understand they will see the same patients for years and that warmth matters as much as speed.

Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team where your role was support rather than the main work. How did you make yourself useful?

What they are checking: Fit with a cross-functional clinic team where nurses and techs depend on the admin to keep operations moving.

What would you do

This job splits your week between two clinics, three days on Polk Street and two on Sheridan Road. How would you keep track of what's pending at each one so nothing falls through when you're across town?

What they are checking: Whether they can run two front desks without losing paperwork, calls or follow-ups between locations.

You'll be getting signatures on admission paperwork. A patient says they're too tired after treatment to sign today. What do you do?

What they are checking: Balancing kindness to a worn-out patient with the fact that missing signatures hold up admissions and billing.

The phone is ringing, a family member is at the window, and a nurse needs a fax sent now. Walk me through how you handle that.

What they are checking: How they triage competing demands in real time without being rude to anyone or dropping the urgent clinical task.

A patient calls to say they can't make their treatment chair time today. What questions would you ask, and who would you tell?

What they are checking: Whether they understand a missed dialysis treatment is a clinical concern to route to nursing, not just a calendar change.

How do you keep a waiting room calm and professional when appointments are running behind?

What they are checking: Whether they communicate delays honestly and keep watch over the reception area instead of hiding behind the desk.

About the work

How do you protect patient confidentiality at a busy reception desk where other patients are sitting a few feet away?

What they are checking: Practical HIPAA habits like lowered voices, screen position and what you say on the phone in a shared space.
