Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

The posting talks about indemnity and expense outcomes. Tell me about a file where you cut expense without hurting the indemnity result.

What they are checking: Whether they think about total cost of the claim, not just the settlement number.

Tell me about an oral presentation you gave to claims leadership or reinsurers on a large loss. What did you include and leave out?

What they are checking: Whether they can present a claim crisply to senior audiences, which the posting calls out as a regular duty.

Describe a time you changed your strategy on a file because new facts came out. How did you know it was time to pivot?

What they are checking: Whether they stay flexible as a case develops instead of locking into an early theory.

What makes a claim handling decision logical, practical and purposeful in your eyes, and can you give an example of one that wasn't?

What they are checking: Self-awareness about quality handling, which the posting names as the standard they will be measured against.

What would you do

You're on an excess layer and the primary carrier is slow to settle a case that could pierce your attachment. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they know how to pressure a primary carrier appropriately to protect the excess layer.

A broker calls you upset that the claim is taking too long and their client is threatening to move the account. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they can keep a commercial relationship steady while still handling the claim on its merits.

About the work

Walk me through your first thirty days on a new general liability claim, from coverage review to your first reserve.

What they are checking: Whether they have a disciplined early-handling routine, since the first month often sets the claim's final cost.

How do you analyze coverage when a complaint alleges both negligence and intentional conduct?

What they are checking: Understanding of duty to defend versus indemnify and how to reserve rights properly without creating exposure.

How do you decide the right settlement value for a bodily injury case that has strong damages but questionable liability?

What they are checking: Ability to blend liability, damages and venue into a defensible number rather than guessing or splitting the difference.

How do you manage reserve adequacy across your whole inventory, not just file by file?

What they are checking: Whether they see reserves as a portfolio responsibility that affects company financials and reinsurance reporting.
