Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
The lift requirement is up to 100 pounds. How do you handle heavy materials all day without hurting yourself?
What they are checking: Whether they are realistic about the physical demands and use safe lifting habits instead of muscling everything.
Tell me about a time a customer was unhappy with a delivery. How did you turn it around?
What they are checking: Whether they stay professional and helpful, since drivers are often the only SRS face the customer sees.
Tell me about your MVR over the past three years.
What they are checking: Whether they meet the clean three-year MVR requirement and are honest about anything on their record.
The posting talks about servant leadership. What does putting others first look like for a delivery driver?
What they are checking: Whether they connect that value to everyday actions like helping in the yard or going the extra step for customers.
What would you do
You get to a residential job site and the spot the customer wants the material is under power lines. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they put safety ahead of customer convenience and know power line clearances when using a boom.
You bump a mailbox or scrape a customer's driveway while backing in. What happens next?
What they are checking: Whether they report every incident right away as the posting requires, instead of hoping nobody noticed.
How do you plan your day when you have several job sites across the Fond du Lac, Madison or St. Charles area?
What they are checking: Whether they think about route order, load sequence and customer timing to keep deliveries efficient.
About the work
This job is running a flatbed or boom truck, and sometimes a Moffett, delivering building materials to job sites. What's your experience with each of those?
What they are checking: Whether they can run the actual equipment, since boom and Moffett work takes skill beyond basic driving.
Walk me through how you secure a load of shingles or drywall on a flatbed before leaving the yard.
What they are checking: Whether they know DOT cargo securement rules and do it right, since shifted loads cause damage and crashes.
What do you look for in your pre-trip on a boom truck that you wouldn't on a regular tractor?
What they are checking: Whether they inspect hydraulics, outriggers and controls, not just tires and lights, on specialized equipment.
