Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you flagged a significant finding that changed what happened next for a patient.

What they are checking: Whether they use real critical thinking on scans rather than just collecting images for someone else to read.

How do you keep up with changes in ASE guidelines, and can you name one that changed how you scan?

What they are checking: Whether they actually stay current or just rely on habits from training years ago.

Tell me about your exposure to pediatric or intraoperative echo, and how comfortable you are growing into those.

What they are checking: Whether they're honest about their limits and eager to learn the wider range of modalities this lab offers.

What would you do

You're mid-scan and you see a large pericardial effusion with signs of tamponade. What do you do right then?

What they are checking: Whether they know which findings need a physician now and will act instead of finishing the protocol first.

This role travels between sites, rotates weekends and takes call every six weeks. How does that fit your life right now?

What they are checking: Whether they've thought honestly about the schedule so they won't burn out or leave in the first year.

A patient is anxious and keeps moving during the exam. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can calm people and keep image quality without rushing or getting short with the patient.

What does keeping a clean, ready lab look like for you at the end of a shift?

What they are checking: Whether they take ownership of infection control and equipment so the next tech and patient aren't put at risk.

About the work

Walk me through how you set up and run a complete TTE from the moment the patient is on the table.

What they are checking: Whether their scanning routine follows ASE protocol in a steady order so nothing gets missed on a busy day.

What's your experience assisting with TEEs, and what is your role in the room during one?

What they are checking: Whether they understand sedation monitoring, probe care and the team roles that keep a TEE safe.

How do you prepare for and perform a stress echo, and how do you get your post-stress images fast enough?

What they are checking: Whether they can capture peak images in the short window before the heart rate recovers, which makes or breaks the study.

How do you fill out your worksheet in the reporting system so the reading physician can trust it?

What they are checking: Whether their measurements and notes are complete and accurate enough that the physician's report rests on solid data.

You have a patient with poor windows, maybe obese or on a ventilator. How do you still get a diagnostic study?

What they are checking: Whether they have practical tricks like positioning, alternate views and contrast rather than settling for a limited exam.
