Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a process you improved through automation. What tools did you use and what changed?

What they are checking: Whether they've delivered real efficiency gains with tools like VBA, Python or SQL rather than just talking about them.

Tell me about a time you supported users who were frustrated with a system.

What they are checking: Whether they stay patient and helpful while solving issues for the Finance staff who rely on them.

Tell me about a time you spotted a process problem nobody asked you to fix.

What they are checking: Whether they can identify improvement opportunities on their own, which the posting asks for.

What would you do

A Finance user says a report is missing transactions. How would you investigate?

What they are checking: Whether they troubleshoot systematically through filters, data sources and timing before escalating.

Two Finance teams want different things from the same system change. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can surface the conflict, clarify needs and get a decision instead of building two half-solutions.

About the work

Write out loud a SQL query to find invoices that appear more than once with the same vendor and amount.

What they are checking: Whether they can use grouping and filtering to find duplicates, a common Finance data problem.

How would you test a change to a Finance software system before it goes live?

What they are checking: Whether they plan test cases, use real scenarios and involve users so errors don't hit financial results.

When would you use VBA versus Python versus Power BI for a Finance reporting problem?

What they are checking: Whether they choose tools based on the problem and who will maintain the solution later.

How do you document a process or solution so someone else can support it?

What they are checking: Whether they leave work maintainable instead of creating tools only they understand.

What Finance concepts, like month-end close or reconciliations, are you familiar with?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the Finance work well enough to know why the systems matter.
