Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about someone on your team who was underperforming. How did you coach them, and what was the result?

What they are checking: Whether they can develop people with clear expectations and follow-through, and also make the hard call when coaching fails.

Tell me about a time you had to deliver a change your team didn't like. How did you get them on board?

What they are checking: Whether they can lead through change honestly, explaining the why while still holding the team to the new standard.

How do you get your branch involved in the local community in a way that actually brings in business?

What they are checking: Whether they can generate relationships and leads outside the branch walls, which separates growing branches from flat ones.

What would you do

Your branch is behind on sales goals halfway through the quarter. What do you look at first, and what do you change?

What they are checking: Whether they diagnose performance with data and coaching instead of just pushing the team harder.

How do you build working relationships with partners like mortgage loan officers, business bankers and financial advisors who don't report to you?

What they are checking: Whether they can lead and influence the broader ecosystem that drives much of a branch's revenue without formal authority.

A long-time customer complains to you that a banker sold them a product they didn't need. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they put the customer's interest and the bank's integrity ahead of protecting a sales number.

More customers bank digitally now. How do you keep a branch relevant and make banking easy across channels?

What they are checking: Whether they see the branch as part of an omnichannel experience and can steer customers to the right channel for them.

How do you balance pressure to hit sales numbers with making sure your team never crosses a line on how they sell?

What they are checking: Whether they understand sales-practice risk and create a culture where doing right by the customer comes first.

About the work

Walk me through how you keep your branch audit-ready on things like cash controls, dual control and KYC procedures.

What they are checking: Whether they treat risk management and compliance as daily discipline rather than something to scramble for before an audit.

How do you build a staffing schedule that covers peak hours, lunches and time off with a small team?

What they are checking: Whether they can run the operational basics of a branch so service holds up when the branch is busiest.

What metrics do you review every week, and what would tell you a problem was starting before it showed up in results?

What they are checking: Whether they manage with leading indicators like appointments and referrals rather than only reacting to end-of-month numbers.
