Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a time you standardized a clinical practice across multiple hospitals or sites that each had their own way of doing things. How did you get everyone to actually adopt the new standard?

whether the candidate can drive enterprise-wide standardization without relying on direct authority over site leaders

Tell me about a situation where a CMO or CNO disagreed with a clinical practice change you were pushing for. How did you handle it?

ability to build and sustain peer-level clinical partnerships when there's real friction

Describe a quality improvement initiative you led from start to finish, across the care continuum, not just in one unit. What was the measurable result?

experience owning outcomes across inpatient, ambulatory, and post-acute settings rather than a single department

Tell me about a digital health tool or platform you helped implement that was meant to improve clinical workflow. Did it actually work, and how do you know?

real experience with digital transformation and honest evaluation of outcomes versus intention

What's an example of embedding a piece of nursing research or evidence into policy or procedure that met resistance, and how did you push it through?

ability to operationalize evidence-based practice against institutional inertia

Tell me about a time a change management effort you led failed or stalled. What did you learn and what would you do differently now?

self-awareness and learning orientation in complex organizational change work

Technical

In oncology specifically, what do you see as the biggest gap between evidence-based practice and what's actually happening at the bedside right now, and how would you close it here?

depth of current clinical knowledge in the oncology service line versus generic nursing leadership talk

How have you used business intelligence or dashboards in a past role to change clinical behavior, not just to report on it?

whether data analysis experience translates into actual practice change, not just reporting

What does professional governance look like when it's working well, and can you give an example of a time you built or strengthened that structure so caregivers had real influence over practice decisions?

whether the candidate understands shared governance as a functioning system, not just a committee

How do you decide which clinical quality metrics actually matter for an oncology service line versus which ones are just noise?

clinical judgment in metric selection versus reflexive data collection

Situational

Say you're six months into rolling out a new oncology care pathway and the data shows outcomes have improved at three sites but gotten worse at two. What's your next move?

how the candidate uses data to diagnose problems rather than just reporting metrics

If a site's Clinical Nurse Specialist and Practice Leader are resistant to a new enterprise protocol because they feel it doesn't fit their patient population, how would you work through that?

skill in balancing national standardization with legitimate local variation

How would you approach your first ninety days leading nursing practice for the oncology service line across an enterprise this size, remote, with travel to multiple divisions?

whether the candidate has a realistic plan for building credibility and relationships at scale before making changes
