Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
Walk me through a piece in your portfolio that started from a brief and ended up in market. What did the brief ask for, and how did your concept answer it?
What they are checking: Whether they can connect a creative idea back to a business goal instead of presenting work as pure taste.
Tell me about a time a partner in sales or brand pushed back hard on your concept. What happened?
What they are checking: Whether they can defend an idea with reasons and still listen, rather than caving or getting defensive.
Which emerging creative tools, including generative AI, have you actually used in production, and where did you decide not to use them?
What they are checking: Whether they stay current with real judgment about quality and brand risk, not just enthusiasm for new tools.
How do you know whether a piece of creative actually worked after it launched?
What they are checking: Whether they think about awareness, engagement and sales results rather than judging work only by how it looks.
What would you do
You get a brief that is vague and the deadline is next week. What do you do first?
What they are checking: Whether they clarify the goal and audience early instead of guessing and burning time on revisions.
A final file goes to print and you spot an error on the packaging artwork the day before deadline. How do you handle it?
What they are checking: Whether they own mistakes quickly and protect precision, since packaging errors are expensive once printed.
Your Creative Director gives feedback you disagree with on a hero visual. How do you handle that conversation?
What they are checking: Whether they can manage up respectfully while still advocating for the work.
About the work
We support a whole portfolio of CPG brands. How do you keep a brand's visual identity consistent when it shows up on a shelf, a retailer's site and a social feed all at once?
What they are checking: Whether they understand that each touchpoint has different rules and can still hold one recognizable system together.
How do you build a campaign toolkit so that other designers or agencies can produce assets from it without coming back to you every time?
What they are checking: Whether they design for scale and handoff, which matters when one concept turns into hundreds of retail and digital pieces.
How would you design shopper marketing creative for a retail endcap differently from a social ad for the same product?
What they are checking: Whether they know the viewer gets a few seconds in a store aisle and design for that real context.
How do you use mood boards, storyboards and style guides to get a room aligned before anything is produced?
What they are checking: Whether they use early artifacts to reduce costly rework and get decisions made at the cheap stage.
