Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time a model gave confidently wrong answers in testing. How did you fix it?

What they are checking: Whether they can diagnose failure modes like hallucination and reduce them with design, not just prompt tweaks.

Tell me about a time you explained an AI system's limits to a business user who expected too much.

What they are checking: Whether they set honest expectations so users do not over-trust a tool with known weak spots.

What would you do

A practice leader wants an AI tool that reads client tax documents. What questions do you ask before writing any code?

What they are checking: Whether they think through data sensitivity, accuracy needs and the actual workflow before choosing a technical approach.

About the work

Walk me through an AI solution you built that real users depend on. What did the architecture look like?

What they are checking: Whether they have shipped working systems rather than only prototypes or notebook experiments.

How would you build a retrieval system that answers questions from a large set of internal documents, and how would you know it's accurate?

What they are checking: Whether they understand retrieval, chunking and evaluation, which separate a demo from something people can trust.

How do you evaluate a language model's output when there's no single correct answer?

What they are checking: Whether they build real evaluation sets and tests instead of judging quality by reading a few examples.

How do you keep client data safe when you're calling a model through an external API?

What they are checking: Whether they handle confidentiality, logging and access controls correctly in a firm that holds sensitive client information.

How do you think about cost and speed when you choose a model and design the prompts for a solution?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh the operating cost and latency of a solution, not just its accuracy on a test.

How do you deploy and monitor an AI service so you notice when quality drifts after launch?

What they are checking: Whether they own solutions in production, including logging, alerting and regular re-evaluation.

Which languages, cloud platforms and frameworks are you strongest in, and how do you pick up new ones?

What they are checking: Whether their stack matches the work and whether they can adapt as AI tooling keeps changing.
