Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to design a new XDM schema to onboard a new brand or data source into a platform. What decisions did you have to make about identity fields and relationships?

real hands-on schema design experience and whether they think ahead about identity resolution before building

Tell me about a SQL-based data transformation pipeline you built to onboard or append new data. What made it reliable over time as data volume or sources grew?

whether their SQL and pipeline experience is production-grade and durable, not a one-off script

Describe a large-scale data migration you were part of. What broke, and how did you catch it?

experience with the scale and risk of migrations the posting calls out, and honesty about failure points

This role reports to no one directly and is hybrid, meaning a lot of independent judgment calls. Tell me about a time you had to make a data governance decision on your own without a clear policy to point to.

comfort operating independently and judgment quality when standards are ambiguous

Technical

Walk me through how you would build a scheduled CTAS query to populate a profile-enabled dataset in AEP. What do you need to think about before you set that up?

whether the candidate has actually built these pipelines and understands the mechanics of Query Service and profile datasets, not just heard the term

Our current 'most recently updated' logic for stitching and merging profiles needs improvement. How would you approach evaluating whether that logic is actually working well, and what would you look at to improve it?

depth of understanding of identity stitching logic and ability to critique and redesign existing systems, not just use defaults

How do you approach a segment or profile overlap analysis, and what have you done in the past when you found audiences that conflicted with each other?

whether they understand audience conflict resolution and can translate technical findings into segmentation strategy

How would you set up field-based stitching in a CJA connection, and what goes wrong if that configuration is off?

specific CJA hands-on knowledge versus general analytics familiarity

We need a JSON-to-Excel transformation process to support PIM workflows. How would you design that, and what edge cases in the JSON structure would worry you?

whether they can handle the messier, less glamorous data engineering tasks that show up in this specific job

Have you worked with source connectors, the Data Landing Zone, or API-based ingestion using something like Postman? Tell me about a specific case where the ingestion method mattered.

concrete exposure to the ingestion tooling named in the posting versus surface familiarity

Situational

Say you're seeing intermittent sync errors in a dataflow feeding AEP. How would you go about figuring out where the problem is, and what would you check first?

practical troubleshooting method for dataflow and ingestion issues rather than just theoretical AEP knowledge

How do you decide what belongs in a data dictionary or schema documentation versus what can live in tribal knowledge on the team?

whether documentation habits are genuine and sustainable, since this role depends on governance discipline

A customer submits an opt-out or deletion request. Walk me through what you'd need to touch in AEP to make sure that request is actually honored across profiles and datasets.

understanding of compliance mechanics in AEP, not just awareness that privacy rules exist
