Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Why PET and molecular imaging, and why now in your training?

What they are checking: Whether their interest is grounded in real exposure or just an attractive subspecialty on paper.

Your board path is Radiology or Nuclear Medicine. How has that path shaped what you already know and what you need to learn this year?

What they are checking: Self-awareness about gaps that come from their particular training route.

Tell me about a time you had to communicate an unexpected, significant finding to a referring physician.

What they are checking: Timely and direct communication of results, which is a patient safety duty as much as a courtesy.

The role may be 50 to 100 percent and could extend a second year. What would make you want to stay on, and what would you want to do with that time?

What they are checking: Whether they have thought about how they would grow, which helps the program plan funding and fit.

What would you do

A resident you're supervising calls a finding malignant that you think is physiologic. How do you handle it in the moment and afterward?

What they are checking: Correcting a learner clearly without undermining them, and turning it into teaching.

About the work

Walk me through how you read an FDG PET/CT for treatment response in lymphoma. What criteria do you use?

What they are checking: Fluency with standardized response criteria that oncologists depend on for treatment decisions.

What are common causes of false positive FDG uptake, and how do you keep them from becoming a wrong report?

What they are checking: Recognizing pitfalls before they reach the clinician, which is where most reporting harm comes from.

How familiar are you with PSMA PET or other newer tracers, and how would you get up to speed on one you haven't used?

What they are checking: Openness to a field that adds new agents often, and a practical way of learning them.

The posting mentions treatment monitoring as well as diagnosis. How does your read change when the question is response rather than staging?

What they are checking: Understanding that the clinical question shapes the report, not just the images.

How do you think about radiation safety for patients, staff and yourself in a nuclear medicine setting?

What they are checking: Whether safety is a working habit rather than a line from training modules.
