Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This fellowship sits in the cardiovascular imaging section. What draws you to MRI through a cardiovascular lens rather than a body or neuro MRI fellowship?

What they are checking: Whether they chose this program for what it actually teaches or just applied to every MRI fellowship available.

You'll often supervise and teach residents and medical students. Tell me about a time you taught someone a read and how you knew it stuck.

What they are checking: Whether they teach by checking understanding, not by narrating their own read out loud.

Tell me about an imaging finding you missed or misread during residency. How did you find out, and what changed afterward?

What they are checking: Honesty about errors and whether they built a habit from it, which matters in every radiology group.

What would you want to have accomplished by the end of this fellowship year, clinically or in research?

What they are checking: Whether they have a concrete plan for the year that the program can actually support.

What would you do

You'll function as a trainee for cardiac MR but also provide independent clinical coverage for the department. How do you keep those two roles straight in your head on a given day?

What they are checking: Clear judgment about when they are the final reader and when they must route a study through an attending.

You're covering independently at Meriter and a study comes up outside your comfort zone. What do you do?

What they are checking: Knowing the limits of independent work and asking for help before a patient is affected.

A referring cardiologist disagrees with your interpretation of a cardiac MR. How do you handle that conversation?

What they are checking: Holding a reasoned position while staying open to clinical context the referrer may have.

About the work

How much hands-on experience have you had with cardiac MR so far, and which sequences or protocols do you feel least sure about?

What they are checking: Honest self-assessment of their starting point, which tells faculty how much supervision they will need early on.

Walk me through how 4D Flow imaging works and where it adds something that a standard phase-contrast study does not.

What they are checking: Whether they understand the physics and clinical value of the program's signature technique, not just the name.

How would you approach a 4D Flow study of the aorta in a patient with a bicuspid valve? What are you looking for?

What they are checking: Applying an advanced technique to a real clinical question rather than describing it in the abstract.

How do you think about MRI safety screening for patients with implanted cardiac devices?

What they are checking: Whether patient safety is part of their reasoning before the scan, not only during interpretation.
