Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a weld you had to repair. What went wrong and how did you fix it?

What they are checking: Honesty about defects and the skill to diagnose and repair them correctly.

These are 2nd or 3rd shift jobs. How have you handled off-shift schedules in the past?

What they are checking: Reliability on off shifts, since attendance and steady output matter in production welding.

About the work

What's your experience welding stainless steel, and what do you do differently compared to mild steel?

What they are checking: Real stainless knowledge, such as heat control and contamination, since this role is specifically stainless and other alloys.

How do you keep stainless from warping or discoloring when you weld it?

What they are checking: Practical control of heat input and distortion, which affects both appearance and part fit-up.

Walk me through how you set up and tack a unit using fixtures, clamps, shims and wedges before you weld it out.

What they are checking: Fit-up skill with the tools the posting names, since a good weld cannot fix a bad setup.

How do you set your weld machine for a new application, and how do you know the settings are right?

What they are checking: Whether they understand parameters and test them, not just copy settings from the last job.

How do you read a weld symbol on a print, and what do you do if the print is unclear?

What they are checking: Print reading and the judgment to ask rather than guess on weld size and type.

How do you check your own welds with a gauge before passing a part on?

What they are checking: Self-inspection habits that catch undersized or defective welds before they reach quality.

How do you move and position heavy components safely using chain hoists or other lifting tools?

What they are checking: Safe material handling with the hoists and lifting lugs the posting lists in daily work.
