Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a large business case you built for a new site of service or line of business. What happened with it?

What they are checking: Whether they have built real cases that drove decisions, and can talk about outcomes, not just models.

Tell me about a time you led a team through a fast, high-stakes analysis for senior leadership.

What they are checking: Whether they can manage people and quality under deadline, which this leadership role requires.

How do you work with the Chief Strategy Officer when you disagree on a recommendation?

What they are checking: Whether they can push back with evidence and then fully support the final decision.

What would you do

A department chair is pushing hard for a new program your analysis says won't be sustainable. How do you handle that?

What they are checking: Whether they can deliver unwelcome conclusions to powerful physician leaders while keeping the relationship.

How would you decide where in the Chicago region Lurie Children's should add an outpatient site?

What they are checking: Whether they use demand, access gaps, competition and referral patterns to reason about growth.

How do you balance serving more children with operating efficiency when the two pull against each other?

What they are checking: Whether they can make mission and margin trade-offs explicit and defensible.

About the work

Walk me through how you'd support updating an enterprise strategic plan that goes to the Medical Center Board for approval.

What they are checking: Whether they know how to run a planning process with data, stakeholders and board-level clarity.

How do you evaluate a potential partnership or acquisition for a pediatric academic medical center?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh mission, clinical quality, market share and financial risk together rather than finance alone.

How do pediatric economics differ from adult health systems, especially with a heavy Medicaid payer mix?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that children's hospitals face different reimbursement and volume pressures than adult systems.

How do you track whether strategic initiatives are delivering what the plan promised?

What they are checking: Whether they build follow-through and accountability, not just plans that sit on a shelf.
