Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you had to deliver bad financial news to a family facing a serious diagnosis.

What they are checking: Whether they can be honest and kind at the same time with families under extreme stress.

How do you keep the clinical transplant coordinator informed about coverage status?

What they are checking: Whether they communicate proactively so clinical plans do not move ahead without financial clearance.

How do you keep track of many patients, each with different payers, deadlines and authorizations?

What they are checking: Whether they have a reliable system, since one missed authorization can cost the hospital or the family heavily.

What would you do

A payer denies coverage for an unrelated bone marrow donor search. What steps do you take?

What they are checking: Whether they know how to pursue appeals, letters of medical necessity and alternatives without dropping the case.

A family asks whether they should elect COBRA or apply for Social Security Disability. How do you counsel them?

About the work

What they are checking: Whether they know transplant benefits are often carved out and check limits, networks and lifetime maximums carefully.

How would you secure precertification for each phase of a transplant episode, from evaluation through post-care?

What they are checking: Whether they understand each phase may need its own authorization and track them so nothing lapses.

Every month you verify coverage on all UNOS-listed patients. Why does that matter, and what do you do if coverage changed?

What they are checking: Whether they understand a lapse while waitlisted can delay a transplant and act quickly when it happens.

How do you work with a physician to get a strong letter of medical necessity?

What they are checking: Whether they know what payers need to see and can get it from busy physicians efficiently.

What do you know about Medicaid and other public programs for children with complex medical needs in Illinois?

What they are checking: Whether they know the public coverage options many pediatric transplant families depend on.
