About your past

What they are checking: Whether they can commit to the evening shift reliably, since the plant depends on it.

Tell me about a time you fixed something mechanical, electrical and instrument-related on the same job.

What they are checking: Breadth across trades, which a small CT site crew needs from every technician.

How do you make sure the next shift knows exactly what happened on yours?

What they are checking: Clear handoff communication, which prevents mistakes between shifts.

Tell me about a time you suggested a change that made maintenance at a plant easier or safer.

What they are checking: Initiative to improve the work, not just complete assigned tasks.

What would you do

The unit is called to run but fails to start. Talk me through what you check first.

What they are checking: Calm, logical troubleshooting under time pressure when the grid needs the unit.

You notice a gas smell near the turbine enclosure. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they react with the right safety steps immediately instead of investigating alone.

About the work

Walk me through a combustion turbine start-up sequence and what you watch for at each stage.

What they are checking: Whether they understand CT operation well enough to recognize a bad start before it causes damage.

How is a simple cycle plant different from a combined cycle plant in how it's used and maintained?

What they are checking: Understanding that simple cycle units start often and fast, which drives different wear and maintenance needs.

As more solar comes on the system, simple cycle units are asked to start and stop more often. What does that mean for the equipment?

What they are checking: Awareness of cycling wear on turbines, which the posting hints at with growing solar generation.

What inspections would you do on a CT during a routine walkdown?

What they are checking: Attention to leaks, filters, vibration, temperatures and alarms that catch small problems early.
