Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
You will lead a QC team at a biologics site. Tell me about the team you have led and how you set priorities when testing demand spiked.
What they are checking: Whether they have truly managed people and workload, not just been the most senior analyst on the bench.
Tell me about a time you had to address an analyst's performance. What happened and how did it end?
What they are checking: Whether they deal with performance problems promptly and fairly with clear expectations and follow-through.
What continuous improvement have you driven in a QC lab, and how did you measure that it worked?
What they are checking: Whether they improve turnaround or right-first-time with evidence rather than just describing activity.
What would you do
Manufacturing needs release results tomorrow, but an instrument went down and a retest will take three days. How do you handle it?
What they are checking: Whether they communicate honestly and explore real options without cutting corners on data integrity under schedule pressure.
You notice a trend of small invalid assays on one method over several months, none of which became an OOS. What do you do?
What they are checking: Whether they read trends as early warning signs and investigate before a failure lands on a client batch.
A new analyst asks you to sign off their training early because the lab is short-staffed. How do you respond?
What they are checking: Whether they protect training qualification standards even when staffing pressure makes shortcuts tempting.
About the work
Walk me through how you would run an out-of-specification investigation from the first result to the final conclusion.
What they are checking: Whether they know the phased OOS process and resist invalidating a result without an assignable laboratory cause.
Which analytical methods have you worked with for biologics, such as HPLC, capillary electrophoresis, ELISA or endotoxin, and where do they tend to go wrong?
What they are checking: Whether their technical depth is real enough to judge an analyst's troubleshooting and catch a weak investigation.
How do you make sure your team follows ALCOA+ principles in everyday work, not just during audits?
What they are checking: Whether they build data integrity into routine habits and reviews, which is where FDA findings usually begin.
How would you prepare your lab for a client audit at a contract manufacturing site?
What they are checking: Whether they know clients look closely at training, equipment status, logbooks and investigation quality in their supplier's lab.
