Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Why are you interested in AI products at a bank, as opposed to at a tech company?

What they are checking: Whether they have thought about what is different about building products in a regulated, trust-based business.

Tell me about a project where you used an AI tool or model to solve a real problem. What worked and what didn't?

What they are checking: Whether they have hands-on experience and can speak honestly about the limits of what they built.

Tell me about a time you worked on a team where people disagreed about direction. What was your part in sorting it out?

What they are checking: Whether they can contribute on a team project without either steamrolling others or going quiet.

Tell me about something you taught yourself recently. How did you go about learning it?

What they are checking: Whether they can pick up new tools quickly, which matters in a field that changes every few months.

What would you do

If we asked you to find one place in a bank branch or call center where AI could help customers, how would you go about it?

What they are checking: Whether they start from a customer problem and evidence rather than from a technology looking for a use.

Your manager gives you a vague assignment like 'look into AI for small business customers.' What do you do in your first week?

What they are checking: Whether they can turn ambiguity into a plan and ask good questions instead of waiting for detail.

At the end of the summer you'll present to senior leaders. How would you prepare to present a recommendation they might not like?

What they are checking: Whether they can communicate clearly and stand behind their analysis with leaders who are much more senior.

About the work

What risks would you worry about if a bank let a chatbot answer customer questions about their accounts?

What they are checking: Whether they understand accuracy, privacy and compliance stakes when AI touches customers' money.

How would you explain how a large language model works to a banker who has never used one?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the basics well enough to explain them simply and without hype.

How would you measure whether a new AI feature actually helped customers?

What they are checking: Whether they think about adoption and outcomes, not just whether the feature shipped.
