Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a governance routine you set up that people actually found useful.

What they are checking: Whether they design governance that helps decisions get made, not meetings for their own sake.

You partner with priority sponsors who are senior executives. Tell me about a time you had to push back on an executive.

What they are checking: Whether they can be direct with senior leaders while staying respectful and backed by facts.

Tell me about a strategic initiative that did not deliver what was promised. What did you learn?

What they are checking: Whether they reflect honestly on failure and connect it to how they run programs now.

Why do you want to do strategy execution in a health system?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the healthcare context and are motivated by its mission, not only the process work.

What would you do

Two initiatives under the same strategic priority both need the same IT team in the same quarter. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they surface the conflict to sponsors with clear trade-offs rather than quietly juggling it.

An initiative sponsor reports everything is on track, but you see warning signs in the data. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they raise honest concerns early instead of accepting optimistic reporting.

The Strategy Execution Office supports standard methods, templates and reporting. How do you get teams to use them without it feeling like bureaucracy?

What they are checking: Whether they can drive adoption by showing value and keeping tools light.

About the work

This role oversees a portfolio of initiatives tied to enterprise strategic priorities. How is managing a program different from managing a single project?

What they are checking: Whether they think about dependencies, governance and outcomes across initiatives instead of tasks within one.

How do you track risks, issues and decisions across many initiatives so nothing falls through?

What they are checking: Whether they have a disciplined system for RAID tracking and escalation.

What makes a good executive status report?

What they are checking: Whether they can give leaders a clear, short picture that points to decisions needed.

How do you measure whether a portfolio of initiatives is actually moving the strategic priority, not just finishing on time?

What they are checking: Whether they focus on outcomes and benefits, which is the real point of strategy execution.
