Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

You would be the full-stack technical owner for Gavel Exec and its agentic architecture. Tell me about a product where you owned the whole architecture.

What they are checking: Whether they have carried end-to-end technical ownership, which this staff role demands.

How do you make architecture decisions on a small team when there is no one above you to check them?

What they are checking: Whether they seek feedback, write decisions down and stay open to being wrong.

Tell me about a time you raised the technical bar for a team.

What they are checking: Whether they improve how others work, which is expected at the staff level.

What would you do

Gavel works with Relativity's broader platform on security and compliance reviews. How do you move fast while meeting those requirements?

What they are checking: Whether they can work within enterprise controls without letting them stall a small team.

An executive wants a flashy agent feature that you think will be unreliable. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they can redirect toward a version that delivers real value without simply refusing.

About the work

How would you design an agent architecture that handles long documents inside Microsoft Word with low latency?

What they are checking: Whether they can manage context limits, streaming and responsiveness in a real-time editing surface.

How do you decide between a single agent with many tools and multiple specialized agents?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh complexity, reliability and debuggability in agent design rather than following trends.

How would you build an evaluation pipeline that catches regressions when you change prompts or models?

What they are checking: Whether they treat evaluations as part of the release process rather than an afterthought.

Walk me through how you handle customer documents securely across the full stack.

What they are checking: Whether they design for confidentiality at every layer, since lawyers trust the product with privileged work.

How would you integrate Gavel with Relativity's litigation tools?

What they are checking: Whether they can design clean integrations between products owned by different teams.
