Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you standardized practices across several Android teams. How did you get people to adopt them?

What they are checking: Staff-level influence across teams without direct authority, which the posting asks for explicitly.

Tell me about a hard Android performance or stability problem you solved at scale.

What they are checking: Depth of real Android experience with crashes, memory or jank across many devices.

How do you mentor senior engineers so they can make architecture calls without you?

What they are checking: Whether they multiply their impact by growing others instead of becoming a bottleneck.

What would you do

The restaurant's internet goes down during the lunch rush. What should the drive-thru app still be able to do?

What they are checking: Offline-first thinking so a large brand keeps serving cars when connectivity fails.

A big enterprise customer demands a custom feature on a tight deadline. The fastest path would add tech debt to a shared module. What do you do?

What they are checking: Balancing immediate delivery with long-term maintainability, which the posting names directly.

You disagree with another staff engineer about the direction of a shared component. How do you resolve it?

What they are checking: Resolving peer-level technical conflict with evidence and written tradeoffs rather than politics.

About the work

How would you define a long-term technical strategy for drive-thru software that runs on Android and talks to the wider Toast platform?

What they are checking: Whether they can set direction across years while still shipping what enterprise brands need now.

Drive-thru orders are taken by headset, shown on a screen and sent to the kitchen. How would you architect the interface between the mobile app and the backend for that flow?

What they are checking: Designing for speed and reliability in a flow where seconds matter and the network can drop.

How do you decide between modularizing a large Android codebase and leaving it alone?

What they are checking: Weighing build speed, team ownership and migration cost instead of refactoring for its own sake.

How would you measure drive-thru speed of service, and how would software help improve it?

What they are checking: Connecting engineering work to an operator metric that enterprise drive-thru brands care deeply about.
