Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you migrated many teams onto a new deployment tool. How did you get them to move?

What they are checking: Whether they know migrations succeed through making the new path easier, not through mandates alone.

Describe a time you said no to a feature request from a product team using your platform.

What they are checking: Whether they can protect the platform's long-term health while keeping a good relationship with its users.

What would you do

Engineers complain that builds are slow. How do you figure out where the time goes and fix it?

What they are checking: Whether they diagnose with data, like caching and test parallelism, instead of guessing at fixes.

Engineers are spread across the globe. How do you support a delivery platform that never really gets a quiet hour?

What they are checking: Whether they plan for follow-the-sun support, safe change windows and documentation for distributed teams.

About the work

Cloud DX owns everything from code push to production for about 400 engineers. What metrics would tell you that outer loop is healthy?

What they are checking: Whether they measure delivery with signals like lead time and failure rate rather than vanity numbers.

How would you design a CI/CD system that scales to hundreds of services without every team building its own pipeline?

What they are checking: Whether they can create shared, reusable delivery paths that still allow teams reasonable flexibility.

Walk me through how you would roll out progressive delivery, like canary releases, across many services on Kubernetes.

What they are checking: Whether they understand safe release techniques and the automated checks that make them meaningful.

How do you think about GitOps tools like Argo CD compared with push-based deployment?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the tradeoffs in auditability, drift and recovery between deployment models.

How would you build in security checks, like dependency scanning and signed artifacts, without slowing developers down?

What they are checking: Whether they can add supply chain protections to the pipeline in a way engineers accept.

How are you using AI coding tools to change developer workflows, and where would you be cautious?

What they are checking: Whether they have a grounded view of AI in delivery, with realistic gains and real risks.
