Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about an operational process you improved in a research or nonprofit setting. How did you measure the change?

What they are checking: Whether they can see inefficiency, fix it and show results, which is what an operations and strategy role is for.

Tell me about a time you worked with people from very different disciplines. How did you keep everyone aligned?

What they are checking: Whether they can coordinate epidemiologists, data scientists and community partners who speak different professional languages.

The lab focuses on justice in health care for women and older adults in marginalized communities. How does that mission shape how you'd do operations work?

What they are checking: Whether they connect operational choices to the lab's values, such as how partners and participants are treated.

Tell me about a time you had to manage a sensitive situation involving a staff member or partner.

What they are checking: Whether they handle sensitive matters with discretion and good judgment, which senior operations roles require.

What would you do

The Lindau Lab runs programs like CommunityRx and Feed1st alongside research studies. How would you keep operations organized across that many projects?

What they are checking: Whether they can build systems for a busy interdisciplinary lab where research and community programs overlap.

How do you help a PI turn a broad goal into a concrete plan with owners and timelines?

What they are checking: Whether they can translate leadership's strategy into work the team can actually carry out.

Two project leads both need the same staff member next month. How do you resolve it?

What they are checking: Whether they make fair resource decisions and bring tradeoffs to leadership rather than letting conflicts fester.

About the work

How would you track deadlines for many federal grants, progress reports and IRB renewals at once?

What they are checking: Whether they can keep HHS-funded work compliant and on schedule with dependable tracking tools.

What tools have you used for project management, budgeting or reporting, and how did you get people to use them?

What they are checking: Whether they can roll out tools that people adopt, not just set up systems nobody uses.

How would you prepare a summary of the lab's work for a funder or leadership review?

What they are checking: Whether they can pull together clear, accurate reporting that supports strategy and future funding.
