Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Walk me through the biggest incident you've led. What did you decide in the first hour?

What they are checking: Whether they have real experience making fast, high-stakes decisions during a live incident.

Tell me about a time you had to push a business leader to accept a security control they didn't want.

What they are checking: Whether they can enable the business while still holding the line where the risk is real.

How do you build and keep strong security talent when the market for it is so competitive?

What they are checking: Whether they develop people and create a team where good analysts want to stay.

What would you do

How would you explain a major risk to a CISO and then to the executive team without losing either audience?

What they are checking: Whether they can act as a trusted advisor who helps leaders make risk-aware decisions.

Oshkosh makes defense vehicles and has operations around the world. How does that shape the threats you'd plan for?

What they are checking: Whether they think about nation-state threats, supply chain risk and operational technology on the plant floor.

Ransomware hits a plant over a holiday weekend. Walk me through how you'd lead the response.

What they are checking: Whether they can coordinate containment, recovery, legal and communications under pressure with a thin team.

How do you keep the cyber defense strategy aligned with business goals as the company changes?

What they are checking: Whether they treat security as a strategic enabler rather than a fixed checklist.

About the work

You'd lead SOC, incident response, detection engineering, vulnerability management and threat intelligence. How do you get those teams working as one system?

What they are checking: Whether they see how the functions feed each other rather than running five separate silos.

How do you measure whether a cyber defense program is actually getting better?

What they are checking: Whether they use meaningful measures like detection coverage and time to contain, not just alert counts.

You have thousands of open vulnerabilities and limited people. How do you decide what gets fixed first?

What they are checking: Whether they prioritize on exploitability and business impact instead of chasing raw severity scores.

How do you keep detection engineering from drowning the SOC in false positives?

What they are checking: Whether they manage alert quality, since burned-out analysts miss the alerts that matter.

How do you use threat intelligence so it changes what the team actually does, rather than just producing reports?

What they are checking: Whether they turn intelligence into detections, hunts and decisions instead of reading material.
