Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
Tell me about a patient with dementia whose goals you built around what their caregivers could carry out between visits.
What they are checking: Whether they write functional, caregiver-driven goals for memory care rather than drills the patient cannot retain alone.
Describe a time a family member disagreed with a diet recommendation you made. How did you handle it?
What they are checking: How they balance patient safety, patient choice and family wishes when diet texture or aspiration risk is involved.
How do you work with the physical and occupational therapists who also see your patients in the same community?
What they are checking: Whether they collaborate across disciplines so the patient gets one coordinated plan instead of three separate ones.
Tell me about a cognitive-communication goal you set for an older adult that made a real difference in their daily independence.
What they are checking: Whether they measure success by quality of life and function, which is the core promise of the Geriatric House Calls model.
What would you do
FOX treats older adults in their own homes and in senior living communities. What changes in how you run a speech session when you are in someone's kitchen instead of a clinic room?
What they are checking: Whether they can adapt evaluation and treatment to a home setting with no clinic tools, distractions, and family members nearby.
You set your own treatment schedule here. How do you plan a week of home visits around Fox Point so patients get their frequency and your documentation stays current?
What they are checking: Self-management, since autonomy in a house calls model only works if the clinician keeps visits and notes on track without a supervisor.
You arrive for a visit and notice your patient seems more confused than last week and is coughing after drinking water. What do you do before you leave the home?
What they are checking: Whether they recognize possible medical change and communicate quickly with the physician, nursing staff or family.
About the work
Walk me through how you evaluate an older adult referred for swallowing concerns when you have no instrumental testing on site.
What they are checking: Their clinical bedside swallow skills and judgment about when a patient needs a referral for a modified barium swallow or FEES.
FOX clinicians may add telehealth to their schedules. Which speech patients would you see virtually, and which would you insist on seeing in person?
What they are checking: Judgment about where virtual care is safe and effective for older adults, especially for dysphagia and cognitive work.
How do you write a plan of care that shows Medicare the skilled need clearly, so the visits are justified?
What they are checking: Whether they understand skilled documentation standards that keep geriatric outpatient care billable and defensible.
What evidence-based treatment approaches do you rely on most for aphasia or cognitive decline in older adults, and why those?
What they are checking: Depth of current clinical knowledge and the ability to explain a rationale rather than just naming techniques.
