Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a student who was anxious about speaking in class. How did you help them participate?

What they are checking: Whether they can lower anxiety and build confidence, which drives retention in required language courses.

Tell me about a time you worked with colleagues on a shared curriculum or common exam. How did you handle disagreements?

What they are checking: Whether they can collaborate on multi-section consistency without either giving up their judgment or digging in.

How do you use office hours, and what do you do when students do not come?

What they are checking: Whether they actively reach out to struggling students instead of waiting for them to ask for help.

What would you do

You have a heritage speaker sitting next to a true beginner in Spanish 101. How do you keep both of them learning?

What they are checking: Whether they can differentiate instruction for very different starting points within one section.

What co-curricular activity would you start or support to get students using Spanish outside class?

What they are checking: Whether they will contribute to language engagement on a rural campus where students have fewer chances to practice.

How would you handle a student who you suspect used a translator or AI tool to write a composition?

What they are checking: Whether they can address academic integrity fairly and design assignments that make real language practice the easier path.

About the work

Walk me through a typical 50-minute introductory Spanish class you would teach using communicative, proficiency-oriented methods.

What they are checking: Whether their classes are built around students actually speaking and using the language, not lecturing about grammar.

How do you decide how much English, if any, to use in a first-semester Spanish class?

What they are checking: Whether they have a reasoned approach to target-language use that supports beginners without leaning on translation.

How do you assess speaking proficiency fairly when you have thirty students and limited class time?

What they are checking: Whether they have practical, consistent ways to measure oral skills, which is the hardest part of language assessment.

How do you build intercultural competence into a lower-level course beyond food and holidays?

What they are checking: Whether they teach culture with depth and variety across the Spanish-speaking world rather than surface trivia.
