Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Walk me through an automation framework you architected. What design choices made it last?

What they are checking: Whether they have built frameworks that are maintainable and used widely, not just written scripts.

Tell me about a time you got engineering teams to adopt a new quality practice they were skeptical of.

What they are checking: Whether they can lead change across teams, which an architect role demands.

What would you do

How do you set up DevOps quality gates without making pipelines so slow that teams work around them?

What they are checking: Whether they balance speed and safety so the gates actually get used.

A team says a failed compliance check is a false positive and wants to skip it. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can handle exceptions carefully with a clear process instead of quietly weakening the gate.

About the work

How would you design a test strategy for Azure Infrastructure as Code at enterprise scale?

What they are checking: Whether they can apply testing discipline to infrastructure, which is the core of this role.

What kinds of tests would you write for a Terraform or Bicep module before it is deployed?

What they are checking: Whether they know static analysis, unit tests, plan checks and integration tests for IaC.

How would you build compliance validation into IaC pipelines so policy violations are caught before deployment?

What they are checking: Whether they can automate compliance checks, such as Azure Policy or policy as code, as quality gates.

What security tests would you include for cloud infrastructure code, and how would you prevent secrets from leaking into it?

What they are checking: Whether they know security-focused testing for IaC, which the posting names directly.

How do you test that infrastructure changes do not break the applications running on top of it?

What they are checking: Whether they think about the impact of infrastructure changes on workloads, not just the infrastructure itself.

How do you detect drift between what the IaC says and what is actually running in Azure?

What they are checking: Whether they understand configuration drift and how to catch and correct it continuously.
