Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a study you led from start to finish. What made it hard?

What they are checking: Whether they have real ownership experience leading technical studies, not just running parts of them.

How would you explain a ride-through compliance problem to a project manager?

What they are checking: Whether they can communicate technical risk in plain terms so others can act on it.

What would you do

A plant's actual response during a grid event did not match the model. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can investigate model gaps methodically and work with vendors to fix them.

A transmission operator asks for model updates on a tight deadline. How do you manage that?

What they are checking: Whether they can prioritize, communicate with the operator and deliver accurate work under pressure.

About the work

Walk me through how you would build and validate a dynamic model for a solar plant for grid code compliance.

What they are checking: Whether they understand generic and vendor models, parameter tuning and validation against field data.

What grid codes and standards, like NERC MOD or IEEE 2800, have you worked with, and what do they require?

What they are checking: Whether they know the compliance rules that drive modeling work for generation facilities.

How do you review modeling work done by an outside engineering consultant?

What they are checking: Whether they can catch errors and ask the right questions, since the posting asks them to review others' work.

Which tools, such as PSCAD or PSS/E, have you used, and when would you choose an EMT study over an RMS study?

What they are checking: Whether they know the strengths and limits of each study type for inverter-based resources.

How does adding battery storage at a site change the modeling and compliance work?

What they are checking: Whether they understand hybrid plant controls and the added modeling complexity they bring.

What steps do you take to make sure your models stay accurate after equipment or settings change?

What they are checking: Whether they think about model upkeep over the asset life, which is required for ongoing compliance.
