Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a transmission, axle or driveline component you designed from concept through production.

What they are checking: Full lifecycle design experience, which this IDES drivetrain role requires.

Tell me about a time you worked with suppliers on a critical component.

What they are checking: Supplier collaboration on cost, quality and lead time.

How do you lead design reviews so problems surface early?

What they are checking: Leadership in creating a design process that catches mistakes before hardware.

What would you do

If you come from automotive or aerospace, what would you need to learn about off-highway drivetrains?

What they are checking: Self-awareness about how heavy equipment loads, environments and volumes differ.

A prototype axle fails early in durability testing. What do you do?

What they are checking: Structured failure analysis and design iteration under program pressure.

About the work

How do you size gears and bearings for a heavy equipment transmission under real duty cycles?

What they are checking: Engineering fundamentals applied to high-load, long-life drivetrain components.

How do you use tools like FEA or system simulation in drivetrain design?

What they are checking: Whether they use analysis to make decisions, not only to confirm them.

How do you apply GD&T and tolerance stack-ups to make sure a gearbox assembles and runs correctly?

What they are checking: Precision design skill that prevents assembly and noise problems.

How do you design for manufacturing and serviceability on large drivetrain components?

What they are checking: Thinking about how parts are built and repaired in the field, not only how they perform.

How would electrification change the way you design a drivetrain?

What they are checking: Readiness for the energy solutions IDES focuses on, such as electric motors in the driveline.
