Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you got involved early enough in a product change that compliance shaped the design instead of reviewing it at the end.

What they are checking: Whether they act as a strategic partner who builds compliance into growth plans rather than a late-stage gate.

Tell me about a time you had to say no to a business partner. How did you explain it, and what happened to the relationship?

What they are checking: Whether they can deliver an unwelcome answer while keeping the trust that makes people bring issues to them early.

How do you explain a complex Regulation Z requirement to a product manager who has never worked in a regulated business?

What they are checking: Whether they can make regulation practical and clear enough for non-specialists to act on correctly.

What would you do

A business leader tells you a launch date is fixed and your concern will delay it. How do you handle that conversation?

What they are checking: Whether they can hold a second-line position under schedule pressure while offering realistic paths forward.

How do you keep your advice consistent across Acquisitions, Credit Line Management and Data Management when each team asks slightly different versions of the same question?

What they are checking: Whether they think about precedent and consistency, since conflicting advice across teams creates its own regulatory risk.

A new regulation or guidance update affects card acquisitions. Walk me through how you'd figure out its impact and get the business ready.

What they are checking: Whether they can run regulatory change management from interpretation through to implemented controls.

About the work

The card team wants to change how it sets initial credit lines for new accounts. Which parts of Regulation Z's ability-to-pay rules come into play, and what would you ask them first?

What they are checking: Whether they know the ability-to-pay requirements well enough to apply them to a real credit line decision.

A campaign eligibility change would exclude applicants based on a data attribute that correlates with age. How do you think about that under Regulation B?

What they are checking: Whether they spot fair lending risk from proxies and disparate impact, not only from obvious prohibited bases.

Give me an example of how FCRA shapes what the business can do with consumer report data in a prescreened acquisition campaign.

What they are checking: Whether they understand firm offer of credit rules and permissible purpose as they apply to real card marketing.

How do you decide whether a practice that is technically legal could still be a UDAAP problem?

What they are checking: Whether they can judge customer harm and fairness, which is where the hardest compliance calls usually live.

How do you review business policies, standards and procedures to make sure they actually reflect the regulatory requirement?

What they are checking: Whether they can trace a requirement down to a specific procedure step and find where the translation broke.
