About your past

Tell me about an HR analysis you did that changed a talent decision. What was the question, and what did you find?

What they are checking: Whether their work leads to real decisions rather than reports nobody acts on.

Tell me about a time your data contradicted what a leader believed. How did you present it?

What would you do

An HR business partner asks you why turnover is up. How do you approach that question?

What they are checking: Whether they break a vague question into testable parts and avoid jumping to the first explanation.

How would you build an analytics strategy for an HR team that mostly asks for one-off reports today?

What they are checking: Whether they can move a team from reactive requests to a planned, higher-value approach, as the posting describes.

How do you explain a statistical finding to an HR audience without losing them or overstating it?

What they are checking: Whether they can present data in a way that informs HR solutions without implying false certainty.

About the work

How do you protect employee privacy when you work with sensitive data like pay, performance and demographics?

What they are checking: Whether they handle people data with care, including access limits and hiding results for very small groups.

What would you put on a dashboard for HR business partners, and what would you deliberately leave off?

What they are checking: Whether they design for the decisions users make rather than showing every metric available.

Walk me through how you would check whether there is a pay gap between groups doing similar work.

What they are checking: Whether they know to control for job, level and tenure and can explain the limits of the result.

What tools do you use for HR data work, such as SQL, Python, Power BI or Tableau, and how do you choose between them?

What they are checking: Whether they have the hands-on skills to do the work themselves and pick tools sensibly.

HR system data is often messy, with job codes and org changes over time. How do you clean it so trends are real?

What they are checking: Whether they know that reorganizations and coding changes can create fake trends in people data.
